Make it Count: Tracking Learning with Tin Can (aka Experience API)
Not all training programs are alike--neither are the learners. As technology continues to advance, organizations are augmenting their learning and development programs. In most L&D programs, designers and developers are tasked with creating curriculums with outcomes in mind, but many organizations struggle to quantify the impact of their training programs. The Tin Can API is changing that. Tin Can is a new learning technology that connects disparate systems through a shared language. It standardizes the data from different activity providers and sends it to a Learning Record Store, where it can live side-by-side. This opens up a world of possibilities for tracking and measuring learning activities. But it can be difficult to the make the transition without understanding why Tin Can is important for future frameworks. Join us for a discussion exploring the Tin Can API and the LRS. Learn how to use Tin Can to validate learning or development programs and how they can be aligned with broad organizational goals.
This session will cover: • What the Tin Can API is
• The importance of an LRS
• How the Tin Can API and the LRS open new possibilities for tracking learning experiences
• How an LRS can be used to better understand the impact that learning has on performance
The presentation will touch on the following areas of the ATD Competency Model: • Learning Technologies • Evaluating Learning Impact • Performance Improvement • Integrated Talent Management
