The ROI Lie: Why It’s Undermining E-Learning and Training Credibility

This session will focus on the following two areas of the ASTD Competency Model:

- Evaluating Learning Impact
- Managing Learning Programs

Trainers often find themselves in a constant struggle to prove the validity & worth of their efforts. In recent years concepts such as training return on investment have been touted as the solution to this credibility gap.

Participants will discover why they are unable to gain organizational support for training, while developing their ability to demonstrate training results in business terms. The session is delivered through both presentation and interactive methods. As the session content is presented, the participants will help identify why the training effort in the case is unable to gain management support. They are then asked to develop credible solutions that will build support and demonstrate sustainable business results. The session will conclude with feedback on the case study and a question and answer period.

At the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Identify how & why ROI is undermining training efforts
  • Identify items that the management team requires in order to establish credibility for your program
  • Translate Kirkpatrick’s evaluation into business terms
  • Develop techniques that add business and strategic value
