Preparing for the Unexpected

Techniques from the World of Improv Useful in Training

What do an actor without a script and a trainer have in common? They need at least three things: Flexibility, thinking quick on one’s feet and the ability to handle whatever comes. These are essential to the success of the performance for either one. Each must prepare and they each must improvise. Jackie Schlicher, personal coach and improv actor, shares her insights, experience and tools from the world of improv that enhance confidence and performance when facing the unknown. This informative, fun and interactive presentation will highlight 3 practices that no improv actor or trainer should step onto their respective stage without.

Bio: Jackie Schlicher, ACC, NLPC is a certified personal life coach in her business, Visions Manifest Coaching Services. She is also one of the four members of the improv comedy ensemble, The Spontaneous Comedy Company. Jackie has a 30 year history as an actor and director in Nashville’s film and theater community. As a coach, she helps groups and individuals develop the creative practices that support change, personal growth and lifetime learning. She is a member of the International Coach Federation and a past president of Tennessee Coaches Alliance, now ICF Tennessee. She has also a recent recipient of a First Night Award, honoring her contribution to theater in Tennessee. She is a graduate of Duke University, a native Nashvillian, and has most recently added “potter” to her long list of creative expressions. One of her favorite quotes that expresses her advocacy and love of the power of creativity to change our lives comes from Albert Einstein: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
