Lean methodologies are utilized across numerous industries for continuous improvement and to optimize work processes. It is a systematic way of viewing the world and solving problems in a way that maximizes customer value while minimizing waste.
In this workshop you will increase your knowledge of Lean methodologies, learn how to apply them to your learning and development projects, and start to see learning from a new perspective.
This will allow you to distill the message of your existing learning and development work, optimize time in-session for participants, and save hours of wasted time and frustration. You will also see how using these techniques saved over a million dollars by streamlining annual compliance training.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the key principles of Lean process improvement.
- Learn how to use some key tools of Lean process improvement.
- Discover how to apply Lean principles to improve your existing learning and development projects.
- Use hands-on Lean tools to identify areas of improvement for your own learning and development projects.
- Receive feedback and coaching, based in Lean principles, to improve your learning and development projects.
Bring an existing learning and development project (project plan, e-learning, outline, strategy, slide deck, handout, workbook, etc.) to use in-session, as you’ll be given time and coaching to apply what you’ve learned to improve your project.
New Workshop Format: one of our four formats for 2020, the workshop format is a two hour session mixing expert presentation with hands-on application. You will both learn new skills and practice using those skills in a workshop environment.

The Creekside Conference Room is located on the First Floor of Building 10. If entering through the main entrance, enter through the atrium between Building 10 and Building 6 and turn to the left into Building 10. The Conference room is located past the Building 10 elevators and then down the hall to the right.
You can also park on the side of Building 10 and enter through the back door from the courtyard. The Creekside Conference Room is immediately to the right.
About Our Facilitator:
Aaron Shaull holds a master’s degree in Psychology and is currently a Senior Project Manager at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) where he applies Lean principles to improve service delivery and optimize processes. In his previous role, as a Learning Consultant in the Learning and Development department at VUMC, Aaron’s primary role was to develop and teach a Lean process improvement curriculum to staff at all levels and roles.
Prior to joining VUMC, Aaron worked for over three years as a contractor with the United States Army delivering performance enhancement and resilience psychology training to soldiers of numerous ranks and specialties across the country. In all, he’s created and delivered engaging training to thousands of individuals across the country in healthcare, military, higher education, and athletic settings.
Aaron’s recent speaking engagements include the MUSC Performance Improvement Conference, the International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI) Conference, the Healthcare Systems Performance Improvement (HSPI) Conference, the Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC) Annual Meeting, The Meharry Medical College TedMed Live event, and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt (MCJCHV) Quality Academy.
