Running L&D and HR Like a Business: An Introduction to Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRp)

Presented by:

Dave Vance, Executive Director, Center for Talent Reporting

Join Dave Vance, Executive Director of the Nonprofit Center for Talent Reporting and former President of Caterpillar University, to learn about an exciting industry-led initiative to bring standard principles, measures, reports and management practices to the human capital field.

Accountants have had standards to guide them for years. Why not L&D and HR?  These standards can be applied to Learning & Development, Leadership Development, Performance Management, Talent Acquisition, Capability Management, and Total Rewards.

In this interactive session Dave will explore these standards called Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRp) and how they can improve our planning, management, measurement and reporting. He will begin by sharing the history and key components of the TDRp framework. Next, Dave will discuss the impact our profession has on our organizations and how we can best demonstrate alignment to goals and our impact on those goals. Last, he will focus on the elements of a good measurement strategy and explore how TDRp is designed to help you select and report your key outcome, efficiency and effectiveness measures. Dave will share his experience using these principles at Caterpillar and how this business-like approach will help make you a more valued, strategic business partner.

In this session you will be introduced to TDRp and the standard measures and reports.

Attendees will learn:

  • The three types of standard measures and the three recommended reports
  • The difference between managing and monitoring
  • How to demonstrate strategic alignment to your organization’s goals
  • How to create a robust measurement strategy employing effectiveness and efficiency measures
  • How to use the three standard reports to manage your program or department successfully through the year
