Lessons Learned from a Life in OD
Virtual Organization Development SIG

There is a difference between the truths and theory of what we learn about OD from study, reading, research and graduate school, and the realities of how those truths are practiced in “the real world." Through application and experience, we conceptualize these differences as “lessons learned” and share them with other practitioners, enriching the truths with lived experience which, in turn, continue to evolve the truths as new data gets absorbed.

In short, as soon as we think we’ve learned it all and the truth is the TRUTH, we’ve stopped evolving and growing – and that’s the purpose of Organization Development!

Program attendees are encouraged to bring their own “lessons learned” so they can be shared in the session.

Our guest speaker for this session is Julie Noonan, CCMP, ACC. Julie has over 30 years’ experience applying the truths and experiencing the realities of the practice of OD. Through her two companies, Julie Noonan Consulting and Intuitive Wisdom Coaching, she creates interventions that transform organizations and leaders so they thrive in today’s business context of constant change.

Julie will share the wisdom of continuing to question even baseline “truths”, finding humor when reality slaps you in the face, and, most of all, maintaining an open learning mind so that, as an OD professional, we are always developing the best for our organizations and leaders.

Your OD-SIG host is Deb Tobey, Ed.D:

Deb has been a practitioner/educator for over 25 years in OD, organizational change, human performance improvement, and workplace learning and development. Her background includes her solo OD consulting practice, Director of OD/Talent Management in two financial organizations and the State of Tennessee, and adjunct and full-time faculty positions at Vanderbilt University and George Washington University. Her doctorate is in HRD from Vanderbilt University, and she has authored/co-authored three books in the OD field.
