Board Role Descriptions

  • Schedule, create agenda for, and preside over Board Meetings and Chapter meetings.
  • Ensure the achievement of the current Chapter objectives and the development of long-range plans by coordinating, monitoring, and coaching the performance of Chapter officers.
  • Authorize all expenditures in excess of approved budgets.
  • Act as the liaison for the Chapter on all regional and association related affairs required to maintain our affiliate status of the Association for Talent Development.


President-Elect

Detailed Description

  • Coordinate the development of long-range Chapter plans.
  • Assist the president in performance of management duties.
  • Provide leadership in the absence of the president.
  • Become familiar with the Chapter's operating structure.


Past President

Detailed Description

  • Maintain the Chapter's history.
  • Assist the Board on special projects.
  • Provides continuity and advises the Board, especially the President and the President-Elect.


VP - Finance 

Detailed Description

  • Ensure the Chapter's sound financial status. 
  • Maintain accurate financial records.
  • Advise the Board on fiscal policy.
  • Collect and be custodian of all funds.


VP - Conferences

Detailed Description

  • Plan and implement annual conference
  • Identify and select speakers for conference
  • Work with Marketing to identify conference theme, branding, promote conference.


VP - Marketing & Communications

Detailed Description

  • Market and promote ATD Chapter benefits to individuals and corporations for the purpose of growing the membership.
  • Create and distribute press releases.
  • Prepare and execute the Chapter marketing, communication, and social media engagement plans.
  • Publish newsworthy Board and Chapter activities through social media outlets and any other similar technology utilized by the Chapter.


VP - Member Experience

Detailed Description

  • Recruit new National and Chapter members from the private and public sectors.
  • Retain, engage, and provide membership services to members.
  • Serve as custodian of all membership records.
  • Manage and promote student engagement within the chapter.


VP - Programs

Detailed Description

  • Develop program goals to meet Chapter needs.
  • Arrange virtual and in-person programs for Chapter meetings.
  • Identify relevant topics and qualified speakers for membership meeting presentations.
  • Create and distribute meeting notices.
  • Manage Special Interest Groups (SIGs)


Director - Administration and Technology

Detailed Description

  • Maintain chapter Dashboard data.
  • Serve as webmaster on local Chapter website.
  • Maintain the local Chapter website.
  • Provide assistance with any other technology utilized by the Chapter.

VP - Community Relations

Detailed Description

  • Build and maintain partnerships with sponsors, in-kind partners, other Middle Tennessee associations, and ATD chapters.
  • Reach out to potential external partners, maintain relationships with existing partners, and ensure timely fulfillment of partnership agreements.
  • Consult with the Programming, committee on securing partnerships (e.g., funding and venue) for chapter and SIG events.
  • Ensure communication with the community through an active partnership program.

VP - Professional Development

Detailed Description


  • Design and implement developmental offerings beyond monthly events—such as coaching circles, peer cohorts, or mentorship-style learning.
  • Monitor and respond to member interest in additional credentialing or professional pathways.
  • Collaborate with the President and President Elect to support onboarding and continuous professional development of board members.
  • Partner with the VP of Programming to review planned events and ensure alignment with the Talent Development Capability Model.

VP - Talent Management

Detailed Description

  • Create an intake process for volunteers (e.g., interest forms, skills assessments, time availability).
  • Match volunteers with chapter needs based on skills, availability, and interests.
  • Establish a system to track volunteer involvement, participation, and recognition.
  • Recognize volunteer contributions to promote retention and engagement
  • Collaborate with other VPs to understand evolving volunteer needs for their committees.

Detailed Description

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive people strategy aligned with the chapter’s mission and ATD’s national values.
  • Collaborate with VP of Programming to ensure events are inclusive in content, speaker diversity, accessibility, and audience engagement.
  • Promote the inclusion of diverse perspectives across all chapter programming.
  • Support board education around anti-bias practices, inclusive language, and equitable decision-making.
  • Share resources, tools, and thought leadership related to inclusion and belonging in talent development.

Director of Marketing - Conferences

Detailed Description


    • Support the VP of Conferences and VP of Marketing in planning and executing marketing efforts for ATD Nashville conferences and major events
    • Coordinate and deliver conference promotional assets, including email campaigns, social media content, and website updates
    • Manage conference marketing timelines to ensure promotion aligns with registration and event milestones
    • Collaborate with speakers, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure accurate, timely, and on-brand conference communications
    • Provide ongoing tactical support to the VP of Marketing to help execute chapter-wide marketing initiatives, especially during peak conference cycles

    Director of Talent Management & Engagement

    Detailed Description


    • Support the VP of Talent Management in coordinating volunteer engagement, role alignment, and leadership development initiatives
    • Assist with volunteer intake, engagement check-ins, and ongoing visibility into volunteer capacity, retention risks, and role coverage
    • Help maintain and track the leadership pipeline, including progression from volunteer to Director and board readiness indicators
    • Support succession readiness by identifying engagement patterns, leadership behaviors, and potential gaps for VP and Board awareness
    • Assist with Talent Management data upkeep, documentation, and coordination to ensure continuity, visibility, and effective execution
