You are probably wondering, “What is a barcamp?” Similar to other chapter meetings, all participants are encouraged to meet one another, have fun, and learn something new. A barcamp is different than those other meetings because the process is self organized. We use technology to expedite learning. Think of a mashup between stand up comedy and crowdsourced meetings. Or a mashup of karaoke and a conference. We all have expertise to share. And we all need to learn. If you’d like to share your expertise or raise a question about talent development, then we want you to submit those topics to the facilitator by Monday, Jan 15. If you want to just show up and learn, then do so. If you want to share your expertise or raise a question about talent development, then there is no better structure than a barcamp. Technology leaders drive change. Join us.

At this meeting you will have the opportunity to:

    • Expand your network
    • Learn new ideas and practices about talent development
    • Contribute to the talent development community in Nashville
We will provide the live music, catered dinner and expert facilitators. You will provide the questions and answers!

    Student Members: $10
    Members: $20
    Non-Members: $35

    5:00 - 6:00 - live music, welcome, networking
    5:45 - 6:30 - catered dinner

January Topic: "Motion Paths and Menus"

Motion paths can be a great value add to animations and content in a Storyline project. But which one do you use, how do you continue the path across multiple segments, and where should you use a motion path instead of a prebuilt animation?

While there is built-in menu functionality within the Storyline player, it doesn't always look or function the way we need it to for a particular project. If you want to build a custom menu, where do you start? Do you use a pop-up menu, a menu that is always on-screen, or a different option? Should the menu be locked down according to progress, or completely open?

This month, we will spend the first portion of our time talking about motion paths, built-in menus, and custom menu options. The last half of the meeting will be individual build time to practice with motion paths, create our own custom menus, or combine the two to create something amazing.

Bring some snacks, bring your laptop and charger, bring some headphones (if you enjoy music while developing), and get ready for a meeting full of build time!

    January Topic:

"2019: The Year of Learner Experience"

    Presented by:

Matthew Daniel, Principal, The Learner Collective

With record-low unemployment, challenges over filling critical roles, and employee expectations over consumer-grade experiences in the workplace the quality of the “employee experience” has become a focus of many companies, with Forbes even declaring 2018 the year of “Employee Experience.” With that shift in the environment, L&D has an opportunity to transform from a mandatory activity to a key differentiator in hiring and retaining the best talent through delivering on great learner experience (LX). Join us for a discussion on what happens when user experience (UX) and learning & development start to work together.

    Here’s what we’ll cover:

    • What is learner experience?
    • How can I include the voice of the learner into my existing processes?
    • What are the tools and methodologies to support learner experience?
    • How do I adjust my skill set as a learning professional to address learner experience?
Sandwiches, wraps, and beverages will be served. We hope you'll join us for a night of great content and conversation.

    About Matthew:

Matthew Daniel is a high-energy, no-holds-barred, tell-it-like-it-is learning technologist and learner experience advocate working in and with some of the largest and most innovative companies across the country (including six years in one of the nations top ten banks – Capital One). While he’s implemented LMSs, LCMSs, Social Learning Platforms, and Curation Tools– his biggest success comes not in the implementation of the system, but in helping learning professionals figure out how to take their existing skills and experience and adapt to the digital age in a realistic way.

Matthew believes in building incredible learning experiences, not just events – that all begins with good instructional design, but it has to be wrapped in incredible user experience. Prior to implementing learning systems, Matthew was an instructional designer who built large-scale new hire and upskill programs for organizations like Homeland Security, the DoD, Honeywell, Valero, and ExxonMobil.

Today, Matthew works with learning software companies on product design, consults on learning transformation, and inspires learning professionals to adopt new technologies and create amazing experiences to transform the lives of our learners.

Robb Bingham, M.Ed., Learning & Communication Strategist
    Converging Solutions

Learning Objectives for the proposed Content/Session

Upon attending this session, learners will be able to:

    • Execute three new icebreakers / team builders that can be facilitated in 10-20 minutes
    • Make more purposeful connections between the icebreakers chosen to the content it supports
    • Share icebreakers with other participants that they’ve found particularly purposeful for specific content

    Content/Session Description:
Icebreakers are good if they get everyone up, moving, and interacting together. But they become great when they add impact to the program you are implementing. In this session, Mr. Bingham shares three of his most popular icebreakers and team-building activities and guarantees you’ll walk away with something new for your facilitation toolbox! Perhaps more important, you’ll get to explore how to create your own meaningful icebreakers that won’t just wake people up, but truly leave an impact that learners can take back to the workplace that can change their performance at work and life!

Robb Bingham, Learning & Communications Strategist, Converging Solutions

(M.Ed., Curriculum and Instruction, University of South Florida) holds multiple awards for helping companies get strategic with training – especially in the space where learning intersects with communications and performance improvement. One company estimates a measurable savings of $3.7 million within the first year of implementing one of Robb’s design solutions.

Mr. Bingham has served organizations in a number of different roles, from Trainer, Designer, Developer, and Producer, to Team Lead, National Curriculum Manager, and External Consultant and is the creator of the Converging Solutions Problem Solving Model.

Robb also spent several years (back in the dark ages) performing and directing on the dinner theatre circuit. Now as a training and communication coach, he talks practically about ways to apply communication and theatre arts practices, to improve one’s authenticity, credibility, and relevancy when presenting to audiences of 1 to 1000.
